Jumpshots & Shot Timing - Basketball
Your jumpshot is the single most important thing in 2K. A good base with the right release gives you a wider perfect-release window, faster timing, and more consistency, especially when using Dynasty's AI timing tools.
How shot timing works in basketball
Every jumpshot has a perfect-release window, which is a range of frames where releasing the shot counts as perfect. The wider that window, the more forgiving your timing is. Dynasty's AI timing tools work best when your jumpshot base gives the script more room to hit that window.
Top jumpshot bases
These are the most consistent bases in basketball. All have wide perfect-release windows and fast releases:
Dynasty users
Oscar Robertson is the default recommendation. It has the widest perfect-release window, which gives Dynasty the most room to hit the perfect timing. Start here and only switch if your playstyle demands it.
Building your jumpshot in the creator
- 1Go to MyPLAYER - Animation Store - Jump Shot Creator.
- 2Choose your base. This is the most important part because it determines timing window and speed.
- 3Pick Release 1 and Release 2. These are cosmetic, but they can affect the feel of your release cue.
- 4Set the release speed to max if your jumper base allows it. Faster means less time to contest.
- 5Set blending to 50/50 unless you specifically want one release animation to dominate the look.
Shot timing settings
Shot meter off = bigger timing window
Turning the shot meter off gives you a hidden bonus to your timing window. Always play with meter off when using Dynasty because the script handles timing for you.
When to change your jumpshot
- If you are getting heavily contested often, try a higher release such as Kevin Durant or Carmelo.
- If you play off-ball / catch-and-shoot, Steph Curry base feels the smoothest.
- If you fade a lot, Kobe or Luka bases have the best fade animations.
- If you are new or unsure, Oscar Robertson is the safest choice for any build.
