Best Builds for Basketball - By Position & Playstyle
Your build determines everything in basketball: what shots you can green, how fast you dribble, whether you get contact dunks, and how well you can defend. These are strong build templates by position and playstyle.
Guards (PG / SG)
6'3 speed demon (PG)
The meta comp guard. Blazing speed, elite ball handling, 85+ 3PT, and enough finishing to get contact layups. Built for ISO, pick-and-roll, and transition offense.
With Dynasty
This build plus AI Auto-Green gives you elite three-point consistency. Quick jumpshot, fast release, and Dynasty handles the timing.
6'6 2-way guard (SG)
Taller and more versatile. Can guard 1-3, shoot from anywhere, and finish at the rim. You sacrifice some speed for defensive versatility.
Wings (SF / PF)
6'9 do-everything wing (SF)
The most versatile build in the game. Can shoot, drive, defend, and rebound. Tall enough to contest shots, fast enough to stay with guards.
6'9 stretch four (PF)
Floor-spacing big. Sits in the corner or wing, spaces the floor for guards, and punishes closeouts with pump-fake drives.
Centers (C)
7'0 paint beast (C)
Dominant inside presence. Contact dunks on everyone, elite rebounding, shot blocking. Not a shooter, but the most impactful position in Rec when played right.
6'11 shooting big (C)
The unicorn build. Can shoot threes and still protect the rim. Stretches the floor while giving you enough size to rebound and block shots. Harder to green with than a guard, but AI Auto-Green helps with the slower release timing.
Build-making tips
- Prioritize your primary skill. Builds that do everything at C+ are worse than builds that do two things at A+.
- Wingspan matters. Shorter wingspan means better shooting. Longer wingspan means better defense and finishing.
- Weight affects speed. Heavier means stronger but slower. Lighter means faster but weaker.
- Check badge requirements. Certain attribute thresholds unlock Hall of Fame badges. Plan your build around the badges you want.
- Use the Build Selector in Dynasty. After making your build, select its archetype in the Dynasty mod menu so the script knows which timing profile to use.
