Troubleshooting & FAQ - Cronus Zen

If your Cronus Zen or Zen Studio is acting up, these are the most common fixes to try first.

Zen Studio Won't Open or Freezes

If Zen Studio will not open, crashes, or freezes when you click Program:

  • Check your internet: Zen Studio must connect to the internet when it opens.
  • Turn off antivirus: Some antivirus tools may block Zen Studio. Turn them off temporarily.
  • Run as Administrator: Right-click the Zen Studio icon and click Run as Administrator.
  • Use a different USB cable: A bad USB cable is the #1 reason for freezing. Try a different micro-USB data cable.

Error E3001 or E3002 (Blank Screen)

This means your Zen firmware is corrupted. Reinstall the firmware using the Bootloader tool.

Source: Official Firmware Guide

  1. 1Hold the small blue button on the bottom of the Zen.
  2. 2While holding the button, plug the Zen into your PC using the short micro-USB cable in the top CONSOLE port.
  3. 3The Zen screen should say Zen Bootloader. You can let go of the button.
  4. 4Open the Zen Studio Firmware Update Tool, or go to firmware.modcentral.ca, and reinstall the firmware.

Hard Reset (Factory Reset)

Warning

This deletes all scripts and settings from your Zen. Only do this if nothing else works.

How to Hard Reset

  1. 1Unplug all cables from the Zen.
  2. 2Press and hold both blue buttons on the front of the Zen.
  3. 3While holding both buttons, plug the short micro-USB cable into the top CONSOLE port.
  4. 4Keep holding the buttons until the Zen lights flash red, then green, then blue. Then let go.
  5. 5The Zen is now wiped. Open Zen Studio and reinstall your scripts.

Controller Disconnecting / Not Responding

If your controller stops working in the middle of a game:

  • PS5 users: You must use Zen Link or the PS5 bypass method. Without it, PS5 can disconnect your controller every 5-10 minutes. See the PS5 Guide.
  • Xbox users: Make sure your Xbox controller has batteries in it, even if it is plugged in with a USB cable.
  • Bad cables: Cables that come with the Zen can break easily. Use a high-quality data USB cable.

Wired Headset Not Working

If you plug your headset into your controller and cannot hear audio or your mic does not work:

  • Xbox: Downgrade your Zen firmware to 2.0.9-beta.43. Newer firmware can break Xbox headset audio. See the Firmware Guide.
  • PS5: Wired headsets only work if your controller is connected to the Zen with a USB cable. They do not work if the controller is connected over Bluetooth.
